The people behind the petals

A bouquet might look small, but it represents a lot of hands and a lot of heart. Each Petals Project delivery is the result of a community effort. People who show up to grow and arrange. Partners who help us reach patients. Businesses that step in to sponsor the work so those moments of care can keep happening.

In this Sponsor Spotlight, we are honored to highlight Yakima Chief Hops a mission-driven, farm-owned business rooted in the Yakima Valley and guided by a long-standing commitment to being a good neighbor.

“At Yakima Chief Hops, community support is viewed as a responsible business practice.”

What inspired their support

Yakima Chief Hops did not come to Canyon Blooms looking for a sponsorship opportunity. Their connection began in a much simpler way. After learning about the Petals Project and the role flowers play in bringing comfort to people in care, the team chose to purchase arrangements for their own facilities. It was a small, intentional step that allowed them to experience the work firsthand.

As they spent more time with Canyon Blooms and learned how the project operates, that initial gesture grew into something more. When the opportunity arose to support the On the Farm Fundraiser, stepping in felt like a natural extension of what they already believed in.

For Yakima Chief Hops, participating in this work is less about aligning with a cause and more about showing up as part of the community where their employees live and work. Supporting the Petals Project reflects their understanding that being a local employer carries responsibility, not just to business outcomes, but to the people and place that make the work possible.

“Built by grower-founders with a strong values system woven into the company’s DNA, the organization continues to seek meaningful ways to give back to the people, planet, and community around them.”

The role of community-based care in Yakima Valley

Community-based programs like Petals for Patients play a vital role in the Yakima Valley. For Yakima Chief Hops, these efforts reflect what makes this region such a meaningful place to live and work. Their ethos of being a good neighbor is reflected in how they support people, partnerships, and initiatives that strengthen the fabric of connection across the valley.

The team shared that nurture, care, and hope ripple outward through programs like Petals for Patients, touching patients, families, care providers, and the broader community. Small acts of generosity, they noted, are the seeds of hope.

Alignment with their core values

Yakima Chief Hops is a farm-owned business, and that connection to land, seasons, and people shapes how they think about community. The Petals Project resonated in a practical way. Farm-fresh flowers grown in Cowiche Canyon and delivered to hospice patients, nursing care facilities, and women’s shelters underscore a practical idea: local resources can be directed to meet local needs.

For the team at Yakima Chief Hops, supporting this work is not framed as charity, but as part of being rooted here. It reflects a belief that businesses benefit from their communities and, in turn, have a responsibility to show up for them in tangible, thoughtful ways.

“It's powerful to be able to give back and bring comfort and joy to those experiencing difficult times or suffering.”

The impact of the Petals Project

When asked about the impact of Petals for Patients, the Yakima Chief Hops team pointed to the value of small, thoughtful moments. Receiving flowers during a time of illness, grief, or transition can interrupt an otherwise difficult day. It is a reminder that someone is thinking of you, that care has been taken, and that you have not been forgotten.

That belief carries over into how they think about partnership in the Yakima Valley. In a rural community, support systems are closer to the ground and often depend on neighbors stepping in. Yakima Chief Hops views collaboration with local nonprofits as part of that shared responsibility, a way for businesses and organizations to support one another so the community as a whole can continue to take care of its own.

“It is our duty to take care of each other and support one another to help our community thrive.”

A message to fellow local businesses

To other businesses considering supporting initiatives like Canyon Blooms, Yakima Chief Hops encourages participation through partnership and financial support. “Businesses in the Yakima Valley and greater Eastern Washington have an opportunity to make a real difference by standing behind mission-driven efforts that bring comfort and hope to those who need it most.”

Closing Thoughts

Behind each delivery is a set of choices that make it possible. Yakima Chief Hops has made those choices, investing in the behind-the-scenes work that allows flowers to reach patients throughout the Yakima Valley.

We are deeply grateful to Yakima Chief Hops for their continued partnership and generosity.
